Cornish Metals relies on Bredel hose pumps and Qdos chemical metering pumps to help decontaminates mine water pumped from underground shafts before discharging the water into a nearby river.
Cornish Metals is using eight Bredel 40 hose pumps and three Qdos chemical metering and dosing pumps in its water treatment process at South Crofty tin mine, which is expected to start producing tin again in 2028. The mine ceased producing tin in 1998.
Qdos chemical metering pumps provide precise dosing of hydrogen peroxide while helping to improve operator safety through effective containment and leak detection features.
Bredel hose pumps provide reliable, low maintenance and contained transfer of thick sludge (containing contaminants such as iron, manganese and arsenic) which is separated from the treated water. The Bredel pumps deliver reliable and low maintenance operation, as well as strong suction capability to transfer the sludge up around about 10 meters.
By removing metals from the water before it is discharged, the treatment process is also delivering environmental benefits. Improved water quality in the Red River is supporting the return of aquatic life and helping to restore the local ecosystem.
